Obviously that speaks to a pretty deep lack of imagination especially for a game designer, but it bears repeating: people lie all the time about all kinds of things for lots of reasons.
In Mandy Morbid / Amanda Nagy's case it has to do with Borderlin Personality Disorder, which she lied on the stand about having (and got caught).
